Script-writer.
Kris Mrksa has been working as a script-writer since 2001. His first script was the short film Sparky D Comes to Town (2001), the story of a son of an emigrant family, his Australian girlfriend, and his clashes with his parents' generation. Written in both English and Serbian, it was filmed in Melbourne and directed by Maciek Wszelaki. The work won Mrksa a 2001 AFI Award for Best Screenplay in a Short Film (as well as winning Wszelaki numerous awards for his direction).
Mrksa followed this script with a succession of scripts for Jonathan M. Shiff Productions, including work on Horace & Tina (2001), Pirate Islands (2003), Wicked Science (2004), and Scooter: Secret Agent (2005). In 2003, he wrote eleven episodes of spoof talkshow Greeks on the Roof, in which Mary Coustas reprised her Acropolis Now character Effie Stephanidis, and in 2005, he contributed scripts to adult drama series The Secret Life of Us.
Since 2007, Mrksa has been particularly prolific. In 2007, he wrote episodes of Kick and East West 101, as well as scripting the Graham Kennedy biopic The King, co-written with Jaime Browne. In 2008 and 2009, he wrote episodes of The Saddle Club, Carla Cametti, Rush, Snake Tales, and Packed to the Rafters.
In 2009, Mrksa began working on the Underbelly series, for which he wrote at least eight episodes between 2009 and 2010, as well as the telemovie Underbelly Files: The Man Who Got Away (2011). Also in 2011, he wrote two episodes of the television adaptation of Christos Tsiolkas's novel The Slap.
His most recent work has been for the series Devil's Dust (2012), which recounts the corporate scandal behind James Hardie and asbestos risks.
He was also script editor for both series of Wilfred.
Among Mrksa's awards are two AFI Awards (for Sparky D Comes to Town and for his script 'The Brotherhood' for Underbelly) and three AWGIE Awards (with his co-writers for The Slap, with his co-writers for Underbelly, and with his co-writers for East West 101), as well as an AWGIE nomination (with his co-writer for The King.)
