BiographyHistory

Susana Isern came to Australia from Uruguay with her husband in 1971. She writes that her arrival and stay at the East Hills Hotel in Sydney was a struggle of adjustment due to the differences in customs and language. In Australia she has raised a family of three children but says that she doesn't know where she belongs. 'I cannot go back to live in my country nor with my relatives, for I have changed too much; and here in Australia, I miss intensely what I left 23 years ago.' (From The Flying Carnation, p. 15.)
