Pam Maitland has a Bachelor of Medical Science with Honours (Flinders University, 1980), BA (Flinders University, 1984), and a Graduate Diploma in Environmental Studies (University of Adelaide 1991). As a member of the 5MMM-FM (now Radio Three D) Environment Collective, which presented a weekly Environment Show November 1985 - June 1988 she wrote news items and longer discussion pieces, and presented them on air.
A performance poet, Maitland writes and performs poetry and humorous monologues, and in 1989 she won the Adelaide Comedy Quest and the opportunity to perform in the International Comedy Festival, Melbourne. She has had work broadcast on ABC Radio National and in September 1998 she presented one of her poems on ABC-TV. Maitland has done readings and performances of her work in a range of settings including 'New Writing Performed' at Club Foote and Cafe Tapas, 'Border Crossing' ( reading held during Feminist Book Fortnight, Melbourne 1998) and as part of cabarets at Adelaide and Flinders Universities.
In 1994 Maitland was employed to prepare an exhibition for Old Parliament House as part of the South Australian Women's Suffrage Centenary celebrations, focusing on the life and work of Mary Lee. Since 1995 she has been a freelance editor, editing and proofreading a wide range of publications and learning materials. Maitland has been Vice-President and Treasurer of the Society of Editors (South Australia) and an Associate Member of the Society of Editors (Victoria), and joined the committee of Friendly Street Poets in 1995.
