Critic and researcher in the field of children's literature, Pam Macintyre graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and Monash University, Melbourne. She lectured in children's literature at the University of Melbourne and was the editor, with Stella Lees, of the Oxford Companion to Australian Children's Literature (1993).
An extensive reviewer of children's books, she is also the editor of an anthology of criticism collated from the long-running periodical on young-adult fiction that Macintyre founded (Viewpoint : Fourteen Years on Books for Young Adults) and two anthologies of fiction: Things a Map Won't Show You : Stories from Australia and Beyond (2012) and Where the Shoreline Used to Be : An Anthology from Australia and Beyond (2016).
In 2009, she was awarded the Dromkeen Librarian's Award for her long involvement in children's literacy, including her role as founding editor of Viewpoint.
