BiographyHistory

Jong Ah Siug was a miner on the goldfields of Bendigo during the nineteenth century. After a dispute with neighbours he faced legal proceedings and was eventually declared insane. He was incarcerated at Sunbury Asylum for thirty-three years. During that time he learnt English and wrote an autobiographical account of his experiences in a mixture of English, Pidgin and Cantonese.
