BiographyHistory

Ralph Winmar, a Nyuungar Elder, was born on Badjaling Mission near the town Quairading. He is the son of Mantle and Mary Winmar (nee Yarran). Winmar was reared by his grandmother and she passed the stories on to him. He married Dorothy Winmar and they had eight children.

Winmar worked as community liaison officer for the Kuljak Aboriginal Employment and Cultural Centre in Midland, Western Australia. He was involved in land claims for Aboriginal people at Quairading. In 1995 Winmar was voted Western Australia's Senior Aboriginal of the Year.
