Ted Mayman grew up in Kalgoorlie and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Australia in 1952. He became an honorary life member of the WA Branch of the Fellowship of Australian Writers. During the Second World War he served as a gunner in the 109 A T Regiment of the Australian Army; as an intelligence officer with the RAAF and later as a narrator with the RAAF War History Section. As well as poetry and short stories, Mayman co-wrote with
Gavin Casey (q.v.)
The Mile That Midas Touched (1964), an informal history of Kalgoorlie. He also edited
Prospects Good Kalgoorlie : a collection of prose and poetry written by senior students of Eastern Goldfields High School (1985).
