Liza-Mare Syron is a descendent of the Birripi people from Minimbah, near Foster, New South Wales. Minimbah in Birripi language means 'Home of the Teacher.' Her qualifications include a Doctor of Arts (University of Sydney), Masters in Adult Education (UTS), Master of Creative Arts Research (UOW), a Diploma in Dramatic Arts (VCA), and a Certificate in Playwriting (NIDA).
She is a graduate of the Victorian College of Arts and has been Indigenous Research Lead (Macquarie University), Indigenous Research Fellow (Macquarie University) Senior Aboriginal Arts and Culture Officer (Arts NSW), and Head of Theatre (Eora Centre of Aboriginal Studies). More recently, she has been Co-Associate Dean Indigenous in the Faculty of Arts Design and Architecture and an Indigenous Scientia Senior Lecturer in the School of Arts and Media at UNSW.
