Ros Highfield spent the early part of her life at Buderim Mountain where her father was a farmer. She moved with her family to the Cleveland/Redland Bay area and began nursing training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital when World War II broke out. After working in several country hospitals Highfield transferred to Charleville Base Hospital where she met her husband, Bill, with whom she had four children. Highfield moved to Townsville and later to Magnetic Island.
