BiographyHistory

The Murray-Darling Basin Commission (MDBC) replaced the River Murray Commission in 1988. The executive arm of the Murray-Darling Basin Ministerial Council, the MDBC was responsible for managing the River Murray and the Menindee Lakes system of the lower Darling River, and advising the Ministerial Council on matters related to the use of the water, land and other environmental resources of the Murray-Darling Basin. As an autonomous organisation, non-government department, the MDBC was equally responsible to the governments represented on the Ministerial Council as well as to the Council itself.

In addition to its administrative and management operations the MDBC also operated as a film production company, producing a number of educational and industry videos during the 1990s.

The MDBC was superseded by the Murray Darling Basin Authority in 2008.
