BiographyHistory

Cate Blanchett studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney. She has worked in film and theatre, and has received BAFTA and Golden Globe awards for her performances. Blanchett and her husband, Andrew Upton (q.v.) served two three-year terms as co-artistic directors of the Sydney Theatre Company, 2008-2010 and 2011-2013.

In 2012 Blanchett was awarded the Chevalier Medal, one of France's highest cultural honours, during the sold-out first leg of the Sydney Theatre Company's European tour.
