The daughter of English and Drama teachers, Alexandra Adornetto attended Korowa Anglican Girls' School.
Adornetto was thirteen years old when she wrote her first novel, which was inspired by J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan. This would later become the series of children's books The Strangest Adventures. Later in her career Adornetto wrote fiction for a young-adult audience, and her books have been republished outside of Australia.
Adornetto splits her time between Australia and the USA .
