Notes

  • The song is believed to have been first performed for the public at the Sydney Town Hall in April 1916 by baritone R. A. Bartleman ('Concert at the Town Hall.' Sydney Morning Herald 26 April 1916, p.13).
  • Souter and MacCarthy also collaborated on several other patriotic songs during the war years.
  • The Sydney Morning Herald music critic said of the song: 'The spirited music possesses charm, and should prove of value to the R.S.A., to whom the rights have been presented by author and composer' (p.13).
