William Wymark Jacobs was an English author of short stories and novels. He also adapted at least one of his stories into a stage play (The Boatswain's Mate, 1907). Several of his works were also later adapted into films. Although much of his work was humorous, his best known work was the horror story The Monkey's Paw.
