In this unit the student will chose one genre - poetry, short story, personal narrative, film or stage - in order to produce a comprehensive critical analysis of the genre in its historical, industrial and socio-political context and development. A main focus will be on how the genre has been used by Indigenous writers to address and communicate specific issues in relation to the larger society, as well as to their own and other Indigenous urban, rural and remote communities. Ideally, the students will have completed the genre units in the creative writing diploma or comparable courses when undertaking this unit.
