Description

The genre of stage play (theatre) has become important for articulating Indigenous experiences and perspectives to a broader audience. This unit teaches advanced principles and skills in writing for performance, including the use of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages and sophisticated articulation of cultural values and intellectual traditions in contemporary plays. Students will be expected to develop high standard monologue and dialogue for the stage, and to write a 'two-hander' scene in which they demonstrate advanced understanding of principles of conflict, subtext, character goals and motivation, and the mastering of the concept of action on stage.
