Description

This unit will focus upon writing in the areas of genre and speculative fiction, and specifically upon Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror and Crime Fiction. A core aspect of this unit will be learning to work creatively and originally ? avoiding cliche and stereotypes ? while managing the reader expectations that always come with writing within an archetypal genre. Lectures will cover the core expectations and archetypes associated with each genre and the core skills and knowledge needed to write effectively within them. Readings will broaden students knowledge of and engagement with each genre.
