In response to the high volume of poetry submissions received and the recent cuts to arts funding, UWA Publishing has established a new poetry imprint, UWAP Poetry. Terri-ann White, Director of UWA Publishing, says that the new imprint comes at a time of uncertainty for Australian poetry publishing:
Poetry publishing in Australia is at a crossroads. It's been hard for a decade or more to find much Australian poetry in bookshops... We have risen to the challenge. Faced with a three-fold increase in submissions from highly established and new voices alike we've bitten the bullet and commenced a series to carry our poetry to its readers. It means we can publish more volumes each year in, we anticipate, a distinctive series that is easily recognised, greater than the sum of its parts.
The first four titles (released in October 2016) include poets Bruce Dawe, Allan Loney, David McCoy and emerging writer J. H Crone.
