Notes

  • Greetings from the General President. An Open Letter to all Members.

'Comrades—This is the first issue of the Maritime Worker, a paper devoted to the members of the Waterside Workers' Federation, and a journal that will, I hope, be read by all members. Much time has been spent to bring about the publication of this organ and it behoves all members not to allow the time spent to be wasted.... Comrades, the columns of this paper will from time to time place before you items of interest to all members, the conditions prevailing in ports other than your own should be of interest to you, and if Branch secretaries submit items of interest that have happened in their branches for publication, as requested by the General Secretary, such will add to the success of the paper...' (R. Whitfield, General President, Vol 1.No 1. 1 April 1938).
