Artist and activist Van T. Rudd has created controversy through some of his artwork due to their left-wing political content. Now a member of Socialist Alternative, he was formerly a member of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and for which he contested the seat of Lalor in the 2010 federal election against Prime Minister Julia Gillard (later the focus of the exhibition Van Rudd vis Julia Gillard (2011), for which he won the NAVA Ignition Award).
In 2016, he released his first picture book, The Patchwork Bike, for which he illustrated Maxine Beneba Clarke's text.
Rudd studied at the Victorian College of the Arts, RMIT University, and Griffith University.
