Australian musician, singer, songwriter, actor and author of both an autuobiography and a novel.
Rick Springfield was a member of the pop rock group Zoot from 1969 to 1971. The band also featured Beeb Birtles (later with Little River Band) and singer Daryl Cotton. Springfield began his solo career with the single 'Speak to the Sky' which became an Australian Top 10 hit in 1972. He moved to the USA in the mid-1970s and scored his first US No 1 single with 'Jessie's Girl.' That single, which also went to No 1 in Australia and the UK, earned him a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. He followed 'Jessie's Girl' with four more top 10 US hits - 'I've Done Everything for You,' 'Don't Talk to Strangers,' 'Affair of the Heart' and 'Love Somebody.' His two US top 10 albums are Working Class Dog (1981) and Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet (1982).
As an actor, Springfield portrayed Dr Noah Drake on the daytime drama General Hospital (1981-1983, 2005-2008, and 2012). He also appeared in the show's 50th anniversary with son and actor Liam Springthorpe in 2013. Other television and film appearances have included High Tide (1994-1997), and Ricki and the Flash and True Detective (both 2015).
Springfield published his autobiography, Late, Late at Night: A Memoir in 2010. Two years later it was listed at No. 23 in Rolling Stone magazine's 25 Great Rock Memoirs of All Time. His debut novel, Magnificent Vibration (2014), has been accorded New York Times Bestseller status.
