'These lyric poems are located in Adelaide and its surrounding hills. They reflect moments in relationship with spouse, lover, friend, family and community. Some poems are open verse with space for reflection, others are more traditional in form but still contain the essential music of Heather Sladdin's poetic voice. Poems such as 'fishing' and 'together' emphasise the spiritual bond between lovers that is expressed through images in nature. 'School morning' and 'the conductor' capture the momentum of everyday life, to remind the reader that we are all interconnected. Towards the end of the collection there are poems dealing with loss, such as 'shipwrecked' and finally, 'night crossing' calling us towards self-acceptance and love.'
