BiographyHistory

The Coolbaroo League was founded by activist, Helena Clarke from Port Hedland, Yamatji brothers Jack and Bill Poland and Geoff Harcus. It became a have of hope when it began in 1947. Coolbaroo was a part of a wider movement for Aboriginal rights, and it raised awareness of issues affecting Aboriginal people, including the restrictions on entry by Noongar people into the inner city. Those restrictions were abandoned in 1954.
