The poem possibly refers to someone with Alzheimer's disease, as it expresses a series of wishes for someone no longer present, with the penultimate couplet reading 'Que tu mente fuese clara / y tus ojos me miraran como antes' [That your mind was clear / and your eyes would look at me as before].
