  • Director's note: 'Published in 1895, The Yellow Wave is a heartfelt call-to-arms to defend Australia against ravening invaders who are hungry for our land, resources and women. It's a strident but sadly familiar call that, for all its absurdities, continues to resonate today. We unearthed and adapted this classic novel with its patriotic, isolationist and xenophobic narrative as our contribution to the ongoing conversation about race, ethnicity, immigration, arrivals by sea, invasion and the presence of the 'other'.'

Production Details

  • First developed by Gadfly Theatre under the auspices of Theatre Works creative development program: Theatre Works, St Kilda, 5 - 9 September 2011.

    Collaborators included Beng Oh, Miki Brotzler, Keith Brockett, and Christie Nieman.

    First produced by theatre company 15 Minutes from Anywhere at the Butterfly Club, as part of the Poppy Seed Festival (Melbourne), 17 to 29 November 2015.

    The two actors played twenty characters between them.

    Director: Beng Oh.

    Cast: Keith Brockett and John Marc Desengano.

    Narrator: Andrea McCannon.

    Set and Costume Designer: Emily Collett.

    Lighting Designer: Matthew Barber.

    Stage Manager: Sarah McKenzie.

    Produced at La Mama Theatre, Carlton, 10-21 May 2017.

    Cast and production crew the same as 2015 production.
