Defending Liberal Humanism?, Yang Baolin , single work criticism
'David Williamson is one of the most influential playwrights in contemporary Australia. His drama presents real aspects of Australian middle-class life and adopts humorous language, which contribute to its great popularity both at home and abroad. Williamson often resorts to irony in his drama to achieve effects of humor and satire. In Dead White Males Williamson adopts irony to mock at Post-structuralism and defend “White Myth†in Australia. His conservatism makes the play controversial and he is thus considered as a villain in 'the Culture Wars'.' (Publication abstract)
Travel Literature Three Titles, Yang Baolin , single work criticism
'Despite its long history, travel literature has not been paid due attention by academic scholars until 1990s. Post-modern theories such as post-colonialism and post-structuralism are habitually adopted as analytic instruments in the process of critical reading on travel texts. A brief review of travel literature and its study, the nature of travel literature and its exoticism, and the role played by travel literature in the construction of national identity are carefully discussed in the present thesis.'
