AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Satirical comment on the 'Red Bikini Girl' Liliana Gasinskaya, who in January 1979 jumped out of the porthole of a Russian ship in Sydney Harbour, swam to shore and sought asylum. Gasinskaya later received $15,000 for appearing nude in the first Australian edition of Penthouse magazine.

In his column, Pocho Dominguez asks then Immigration Minister Michael MacKellar if the Hispanoamerican women who have been waiting so long to migrate, many hoping to be reunited with their families, should strip nude or throw themselves into Sydney Harbour to be allowed to stay in Australia.
