Mistress Betty Treads a Measure was not one of Handley's more frequently performed plays, and little is known of its plot, barring that it is set in the eighteenth century, and seems to be a comedy of manners.
Originally produced by Isabel Handley for the Melbourne branch of the Repertory Players in August 1927: Handley also took a role, as well as writing and producing the play.
Repeated again as part of the Australian Literature Society evening of one-act Australian plays, on 31 August 1927, with a cast including Isabel Handley, Edith Appleton, Walter Armstrong, and Les Faulkner (again produced by Handley).
