Notes

  • October 21 is memorable because on that day in 1805 the British Navy, under Nelson, smashed the combined navies of France and Spain under Villeneuve and two Spanish admirals. That victory removed all fear of Napoleon's threatened invasion of England. It was in this battle that Nelson lost his life.
