BiographyHistory

Nineteenth century French composer Daniel Auber was prominent in developing spoken as well as sung passages in comic opera. His succes can be attributed to both his collaboration with librettist Eugène Scribe and his spirited musical settings. Arguably his most popular opera, writen in the romantic vein is Fra Diavolo (1830).
