BiographyHistory

Ann Tündern-Smith was born in Bonegilla migrant camp to an Estonian mother. She is an independent scholar whose research focuses on refugees from the Baltic States who were passengers of the American Army Transport ship the General Stuart Heintzelmann which arrived in Australia on 28 November 1947. Tündern-Smith is the author of Bonegilla's Beginnings (2007) a history of the Bonegilla Migrant Reception Centre.
