BiographyHistory

Elsie Gratwick was a New South Wales school teacher. During World War I, several of her patriotic poems appeared in the Australian newspapers. In 1916 she married Albert Henry Riddell, a school teacher and former professional cyclist. Riddell enlisted in the AIF and left Australia for Europe soon after their marriage. He died of wounds in 1918. Elsie remarried in 1920.
