The first Australian-written play to be performed on Australian television.
It is unclear to what extent (if at all) the play was modified for television, but it's nature as Australia's first Australian-written television drama does mark it as distinct from the play version.
R.C. Packer, in the Australian Women's Weekly column, 'Television Parade', records:
Recently the A.B.C. put on Channel 2 an Australian play by Leslie Rees called "The Sub-Editors' Room." The play was out-spoken and the word "slut" was used several times. Full marks go to the A.B.C. for putting on such a play without emasculating the author's words (2 January 1957, p.20.).
