An extract from the first instalment of a serialisation of a humourous dictionary of words published in the English magazine the New Monthly Magazine and Literary Journal in 1824.
The word 'Specimen' in the original title is plural. However, as this is an extract (a 'Specimen' of the 'Specimens') the editor of the Cornwall Chronicle may have deliberately made the work singular.
