BiographyHistory

Regarded as 'father of modern pantomime," Augustus Harris was a British actor, impresario, dramatist and theatre manager (incuding Drury Lane). His large-scale Christmas pantomimes, produced at Drury Lane beginning in 1879 became the most popular holiday entertainments in London, and subsequently featured some of the biggest names in British theatre and music hall. Harris also wrote in other drmataic genres, notably melodrama.
