Although advertised as having been adapted specially for the Mastodon Star Minstrels by J. P. Hydes, this second production of
H.M.S. Pin-a-4 (In Black) for the year 1882 may have been influenced, if not pirated, from Bent and Bachelder's Anglo-American Christy's Minstrels earlier production. That version may itself have been updated and/or re-worked from
W. Horace Bent's 1880 burlesque,
H.M.S. Pin-a-4.
