BiographyHistory

The son of English barrister Robert Reece (1808–1874), Robert Reece Jnr was a comic playwright and librettist who wrote or collaborated on many successful musical burlesques, comic operas, farces and adaptations from the French, including the English-language adaptation of the operetta Les Cloches de Corneville, which became the longest-running piece of musical theatre in history up to that time. Among his collaborators were librettists Henry Brougham Farnie, F. C. Burnand, H. J. Byron and W.S. Gilbert, and composers Frederic Clay and Franz von Suppé.

At least one of Reece's works, Prometheus (1865) was adapted and localised in Australia during the nineteenth century.
