A 'little educational work ... written in an easy and correct style, and the subjects are of interest from a local point of view' (Argus, 21 February 1868: 4).
Pitt's prose pieces, educational tales, and poems are intended for children at second-class level. A number of the stories and prose pieces have Australian content, particularly relating to the Australian bush, flora and fauna. There is also a 'History of Australia' in prose and verse.
