AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A column dealing with the origins of the love song 'Eileen a Roon'. The column addresses the dispute over the lyrics' origins - some suggest a Scottish origin (the song is usually sung to the Scottish air 'Robin Adair'), but the columnist makes the case for an Irish lyricist.

(Some parts of the text bear marked similarities to sections of an article titled 'Irish Songs', published in Bentley's Miscellany 14 (July 1843): 307-314.)

Affiliation Notes

  • This work has been affiliated with the Irishness in Australian Literature dataset because it contains Irish characters, settings, tropes or themes.
