A rich young woman, disgraced by an affair with a married man and a subsequent pregnancy, is sent by her uncle to the distant hilltop down of Mercury, accessible only by dirigible, where she is to marry a man with his own secrets.

Notes

  • Steampunk note: Featured in an anthology of steampunk romance fiction. Set in a secondary world, the focus is on magic: each inhabitant of the world has an affinity with a particular element. But one protagonist, whose affinity (a rare one) is for metal creates magnificent automatons, as well as medical devices and prosthetics, including his own clockwork heart.
