Phyllis Gibbs was described in newspaper reports as 'winner of Australasian Films Beauty Contest'. The competition is also referred to in newspaper reports as the 'Australasian Film Contest' and the 'Unshingled Beauty Competition'.
Newspaper reports also made much of the film's association with the Australian racing fraternity. For example, the Townsville Daily Bulletin notes that the film 'introduces every eminent horse and man in Australian racing life, including Statesman, Limerick, Winalot, Sans Culotte, Mollison, and jockeys McCarten, Pike, Toohey, Billy Mchachlan [sic], Marsden, Muro and Ashley Reed.'
