There was some criticism in the contemporary press of the casting: 'it behoves the firm responsible for the next production of Australian drama, military or civil, to see that none but first-class artists are engaged, the heavy lead in the said "Will They Never Come" being recognised and smiled at as the very cockney comic lead of the late lamented George Blood Co. There are surely enough first-class artists in Australia without searching the smalls for actors to pose before the bio. camera as representatives of the best we can turn out.' ('Pavilion', Sunday Times, 25 April 1915, p.16)
Many of the soldiers in the film were played by members of the First Australian Expeditionary Force, who had been shipped out to the Dardanelles by the time the film was released. ('Will They Never Come?', The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate, 13 July 1915, p.2).
