(p. 1)
The Aboriginal Protection Society, single work column

A report on the meeting of the Aboriginal Protection Society in Sydney on 16 October 1838. In this report, the Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser refutes the words of one of the speakers, Rev. L. E. Threlkeld (Lancelot Edward Threlkeld). The Rev. Thelkeld accused 'the Editors of the Colonial newspapers ... of criminality in the sight of God for endeavouring to poison the minds of the public and excite their ire against the native tribes.' The Sydney Gazette denies the charge writing that the Gazette 'ever advocated the cause of the Aborigines' and that the editor, George Cavenagh, was a member of the Society.

Mechanics' School of Arts, single work column

This short paragraph advises that, 'Mr. N. L. Kentish [Nathaniel Lipscomb Kentish] has published a prospectus of a series of four lectures he is about to deliver at the Mechanics' School of Arts, on New South Wales, its present state and future prospects. The first lecture will be delivered on Monday evening. The lectures are intended to embrace the subjects - Immigration, Transportation, Legislation, and other matters.'
