Performer and writer.
The daughter of multi-racial South African parents (in her words), Candy Bowers was raised in the western suburbs of Sydney. The co-artistic director of Black Honey Company, she produces theatre that focuses on radical questioning of feminist and race issues. She graduated from NIDA in 2001.
Bowers' work (which covers forms that fall outside AustLit's scope) includes comedy hip-hop act Sista She, stand-up comedy shows Who's That Chik? and Australian Booty, and burlesque show Hot Brown Honey. Her hip-hop play One the Bear was produced by La Boite and Campbelltown Arts Centre in 2017.
