Notes

  • A short paragraph on the end of the current season of performances and the closure of the Royal Victoria Theatre appears on page 2 of this issue. It was anticipated that the theatre would 'be re-opened in about three weeks'. The paragraph includes mention of the last benefit of the season (for John Meredith) and the size of the house.

The Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser apologies to Jacob (Joseph) Josephson for inserting correspondence defamatory to Josephson in the Sydney Gazette of the 6 March 1838. The defamatory correspondence referred to a short story 'The Devil and the Man of Worth' published in the March 1838 issue of the Australian Magazine.
