Notes

  • This poem heads an advertisement for Phillip M'Carroll's Sydney butcheries.
  • M'Carroll's first name is variously spelled 'Philip' and 'Phillip' in advertisements appearing in Sydney newspapers. In Sydney's Sands Directory, the name appears with the double 'l' and this form is used consistently in AustLit, regardless of the spelling in individual advertisements.
  • At head of poem: Vote for Woods, and do your duty. Rally round your old friend Woods. Do not forget to be at the Poll on Tuesday.
