The advertisements for the Royal Victoria Theatre's performance in August 1838 describe this play as a 'Melo-Dramatic Drama in three Acts founded on one of Sir Walter Scott's most Popular Tales called, "The Knights Templars"' [Ivanhoe]'. The story was adapted by a number of early nineteenth century British playwrights including Samuel Beazley, Alfred Bunn and John William Calcraft. AustLit has not yet established which version was produced in Sydney in 1838.

— Appears in: Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser , 25 August vol. 36 no. 4062 1838; (p. 2) A short report on Maria Taylor's benefit in which the plays presented by the Royal Victoria Theatre are briefly discussed. Maria Taylor (ca. 1813-1841) was an actress in nineteenth century Sydney. The author (William Kerr?) also alludes to Taylor's conduct '... on Tuesday evening last ... with the hope that we may never witness a repetition of such behaviour...' -
