Charles Faucett Bonnar worked as a compositor for the Colonial newspaper and the Monitor and Herald newspapers in Sydney in the 1830s. By 1838 he was living in Adelaide, South Australia, where he opened a theatre in a room 'capable of containing about 400 persons'. Bonnar was acting and stage manager for this theatrical enterprise and spoke an opening address 'written expressly for the occasion ... in the character of a strolling manager.'
