Artist: Ian Burn
Birth date, place: 29 December, 1939, Geelong, Victoria
Death date, place: 1 September, 1993, Milton, Milton, NSW, Australia
This artist's profile was developed by Erika Fehre during 2014 at The University of Queensland as a part of the Visual Arts Curating and Writing course, convened by Dr Allison Holland.
Ian Burn studied at National Gallery School. When he went to Melbourne he got very inspired by the artists that he met. John Brack was one of them. Burn had a huge understanding for colour theory, materials and techniques for painting, and later on Fred Williams became Burn’s mentor. They shared the same deep suspicion for the academic life.
