In the earlier 20th century, James Bentley lived at 'The Grange', near Peak Hill, in central western New South Wales. He was a regular contributor to the Narromine News and Trangie Advocate and his poems also appeared at intervals in other newspapers, including the Sydney Morning Herald. Further biographical details remain to be established.
